My 1980 911 SC FAQs:

  1. Why are you selling the car?
  2. Baby on the way.

  3. Is there anything wrong or that needs to be fixed or adjusted on the car?
  4. The windshield leaks a bit on the passenger side when it pours rain.

  5. What was completed on the car when you had the top end rebuild done?
  6. Top end rebuild/Clutch/Tranny:
New clutch cable, helper spring, new pedals, short shift kit all make it
feel a lot better; transmission gear oil just changed a couple of months
ago; clutch was changed in 1987 (at 110K km) along with top end rebuild, new
head studs, etc. (this was an over $6000 job!). No limited slip.

  7. Does the car leak or burn any oil?
  8. No leaks. I usually add a quart between oil changes (4K miles)

  9. In general how does the car run, drive, and shift?
  10. Great. Especially with the recent addition of new pedals, cables, and helper springs. It's good for a 915 tranny. There is an elusive hot-start condition which happens occasionally. I have spent $1000 last year chasing the problem. It's much better than it was, but it does happen sometimes.

  11. Would you object to a PPI to be performed on the car and how do you think it would rate over all?
  12. No problem. I have the $200 PPI results from when I purchased the car. Mechanically, I'd say it's in better shape now. The paint certainly hasn't gotten any better, though.

    Leak down:
I had Dulles International Motorsport in northern Virginia do their $200
inspection including compression leak down test 2 years ago (Dec 1998) when
I was buying the car from a the previous owner in Centerville, VA. Here are the
    results:

    1: 2%
    2: 2%
    3: 3%
    4: 4%
    5: 2%
    6: 2%

  13. Is the suspension stock?
  14. Bilstein sports, turbo tie rods, lowered to Euro height (could be lowered a
bit more for my taste, though)

  15. Have the rear bushings been replaced (the nasty ones by the rear
    torsion bars)?
  16. No, I don't think so.

  17. How fresh are the rotors?
  18. No problem with the rotors, but I have not replaced them. I mounted some
torsion bar brake coolers which help at track events.

  19. What pads?
  20. Metal Master

  21. What fluid?
  22. ATE Super Blue

  23. What kind of tires are on it?
  24. BFG Comp TAs (passed inspection, but rears may need replacing within the
    next year)

  25. Can better describe the interior?
  26. Black, door panels are good, no cracks on dash, good carpet, I'll provide
the stock rear seats and belts. Again, stereo is not great since the
    speakers need to be replaced.

  27. Is the paint the original paint?
  28. No. Not sure when, but someone repainted this car.

  29. Is the black stone guards vinyl or painted on
  30. Vinyl

  31. Any cracks in the windshield?
  32. No, but it leaks on the passenger side a bit when it pours outside.

  33. Any rust at all anywhere?
  34. Yes. Bubble on passenger side A-pillar. See picture.

  35. Fender lips rolled?
  36. No.

  37. By the way, here's the documentation I have on the owner history:
  38. Dec. 1999-present - Greg Micheal (me)
1986-1999 - George James (Centerville, VA)
1984-1986 - Kevin Kelly (US military guy who imported it in 1984)
    1980-1984 - 5 German owners (I have all the names, but no service records);
2 or more of these owners were Doctors in or around Heidelburg
