If you haven't noticed I really prefer Harman Kardon Products over anything else in this price range (under 1k). This is my second Harman Kardon receiver that I have purchased and absolutely love it. I upgraded my aging AVR55 to the wonder AVR520 as I wanted something with the DTS decoding. DTS decoding allows for a discrete sound. Which means each audio channel will get a specific sound signal. So if a airplane is flying from the left side of the screen to the right side, then the sound will fade in and out the same way. By upgrading to the AVR 520 I added DTS and DTS-ES (6.1 decoding) decoding, Harman Kardon's famous logic 7 surround mode, bigger internal amplifier 85x2rms (stereo) and 75x5rms in surround mode, 6.1 and 7.1 pre-out jacks, HDCD compatibility (full 20bits of high definition audio sound), and much more. Don't let the 85x2 rms rating full you. On my own watt meter with a 8ohm load my receiver pushed out a little over 110watts per channel in stereo mode, and almost 100 watts per channel in surround mode.

I was originally going to use this amp to power my 2 rear back surround channels so I would have a full 7.1 surround decoding. However limited space in my room left me no place to mount my 2 additional speakers therefore this amp just powers my mains at a healthy rms rating of 100wx2. However the 100wx2 rating for this amp is unbelievably conservative. On my own watt meter this amp was able to push past the 170watt per channel rms limit. Sound and Vision also tested this amp and was able to get an amazing 180watts per channel from it. To say the least this amp makes my front mains extremely loud. Another plus to this amp is it's price. Basically nothing can come close in performance per dollar when comparing this amp.

This is a very nice sounding unit however I think Harman Kardon forgot a little something called "Quality" in this unit. So far my second FL8380 has been flawless however my first one was a nightmare. So be careful when you purchase this unit because if you do not purchase from an authorized dealer the warranty is not valid. However this unit comes with High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD®) processing, Burr Brown digital processors which is a must, and coaxial digital out. City of Angles Sound Track which is a HDCD sounds absolutely amazing when playing though this cd-player. The full 20bit audio stream lets you hear every little detail in the music.
