OLD MATERIAL
WAS REMOVED
AND REPLACED WITH
NEW PADDING & CARPET.
MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE!
ONLY COST IS THE
CARPET. WHAT A DEAL!
ALL THAT'S
LEFT IS TO ADD A TRIM PIECE TO THE EDGE OF THE OLD COVERING FOR
A FACTORY LOOK!
Above is a little better
photo of my modified/repaired interior rear panels.
Numbers one through three show the "line" I used as
a border to start
the transition from the factory covering to the new carpet "panel"
If you look closely at number one, you can see the original material,
the
plan is to use a finishing strip, like that of a door edge guard
to slip over
the exposed edge of the original material, then simply attach
the new edge
to the carpet (with 3m77) so it lays flat.
Numbers four and five show how I was able to "tuck"
the opposite side of
the carpet under the rubber material that holds the side window
in place.
Although not finished, it really looks much better than before.
As far as how to get
the carpet to fit, well it's a process of trial and error. I
had to cut a large piece and slowly shape it until if fit properly.
Finally, the panels
did not have to be removed to under go this process.
The repairs, at least
in my mind "passed" the test, because at Sharks in the
Harbor II
the "repairs" basically went "unnoticed",
until I mentioned them, and even then
I got the ole "I got to do something to mine too"!
