Well, the motor is now in the car.
My friend welded in the mount for me and the motor is now
installed, hopefully permanently. It's amazing
that it actually fits. It looked so tall and wide on the stand.
Right now the only thing I'm waiting for is an oil line I'm having fabricated
by a local hydraulics firm.
I've installed the 911 combo gauge
I picked up at the Hershey swapmeet, and the 914-6 tach that I bought from
lister Dirk Wright. I also installed the new carpet kit which came
with the car from Tim. With the nice black interior and new carpeting,
the inside looks like a new car's.
The Second Update
The oil line arrived. It will be installed as soon as possible, and now that I can try to start the motor, I'll start hunting the gremlins that I know will be hiding in there.
Update Three
IT RUNS!!!!! I got the line installed
and fired it up. I had to chase down a few gremlins. The carb
floats needed adjustment and the distributor was off by one tooth, but
now it runs. I doesn't quite purr just yet, but the sound of that
flat six right behind your ear is something else. I'll get some pictures
up as soon as I get 'em back from the developers.
Now I've got to monkey with the timing
and sychronize the carbs. They're close now, but not right.
I also need the DMV to send me my plates. I've registed the car as
an antique vehicle, so the plates are a special order, especially since
I'm getting personalized plates. I'm getting DVDT--in physics dv/dt
means acceleration, and I'm going to have a lot more of that.
I also have a few minor electrical
gremlins to hunt. Primarily why don't my gauges work?
Update 3a
Solved my oil gauge problem. I just had the leads mixed up on the gauge. The tach is another story and will go to North Hollywood Speedometer to be converted to work with the MSD. The early 911 and 914-6 tachs are triggered differently from later Porsche and most other tachs. I'm still waiting on those slowpokes at the DMV. It's really starting to make me nuts now.
