How To Remove The Oil Separator


Before sending off the cam covers and intake for powder coating, I wanted to remove all the the oil fittings and other pieces attached to everything. The passenger side cam cover has a hollow plastic cup attached to the underside call the "oil separator."

The oil separator is secured to the underside with a nut that is locked in place by a washer. To release the washer, just get a long thin screwdriver and bend the tab back. The nut, however, can be pretty tight. It has 4 notches cut into it rather than a hex-shaped head. In order to remove that notched nut, you may need to fashion a tool like this one using a Dremel (or a grinder) and a 15/16" inch deep socket:
