| Model: 754HX
Power Rating: 74Wx4 rms Bridge configurations: 1, 2, 3 or 4 channel operation Features: high current or high voltage mode (switchable); status lights on the top of the case; hi and low pass filters built right in; will accept RCA-type inputs or low-level speaker inputs; 0-12 dB bass boost; this amp is shorter than most, so it can squeeze into spots that many others can't. I have the two rear channels bridged going to the Microsub. Each Diamond crossover gets 75W from this amp. Needless to say, the sound usually becomes painful before it distorts. I got the picture above from Car Audio Innovations. It shows how easily the amp installs under the seat of my 1995 911. I never thought there would be enough room. There are some things that need to be removed and wires that need to be shoved out of the way, so if you're considering doing this, definitely check out their site. This amp has been discontinued, and the amps Sony has on their site are very wild. I can say that this amp is one heck of a good power source. I have been impressed, and even bought it used off eBay. I would recommend looking into this if you don't like the looks of the new amps (and if you're comfortable using eBay). It always scares me when a manufacturer starts putting their R&D money into cosmetic stuff rather than the guts. Then again, Sony sure got the guts right on this amp. Nothing needs to be changed! After I first installed the amp, I had all sorts of problems with noise and interference. I bought filters, spent lots of time troubleshooting...all to find out that I had a pinched wire in the tweeter that was grounding out the amp. Just enough that the tweeter was working, but it wasn't as loud, and was the source of all the noise. Once I fixed that, it was unbelievably clean and clear, no filters. |
