Installing AutoThority Stage2 Chips

Remove DME & KLR Computer Boxes

Remove the carpeting from the passenger footwell. Then take off the Porsche high-tech plywood panel below that (does anyone have a part# and cost on that?). Unscrew the bracket holding the DME and KLR computers. The top is held on by some delicate plastic screw, so be gentle.

Pull the computer bracket away from the firewall. It will get snagged on the carpeting on the lower left side. Lay it down so you can see the screws holding the computers to the bracket. Remove those screws and lift off the bracket

The DME computer will be on the left and the KLR computer is on the right with the clear plastic boost-line leading into it. DON'T GET THESE COMPUTER BOXES MIXED UP !!! Might be a good idea to label them.

Open Up Computer Cases
Now we get to the fun part. Make sure you are well grounded to prevent static damage to the computers. Touch a bare spot on the chassis of the car somewhere, like the door-hinge bolts.

Pry up and straighten out the finger-like tabs on the bottom of both computer boxes. On the KLR box, also remove the additional plastic locking pin as well.

Then flip the boxes over and remove the cover of the case.

Separate Circuit Boards

Separating the two circuit boards per computer can be a little tricky because you need three hands. You have to spread the upper and lower boards apart at the same time you're prying apart the ball-and-socket connection on the support posts.

Easiest to grab the bottom board with your fingers and push up on the upper board with your thumb. With your other head, use a small screwdriver to spread apart the ball-and-socket joint (there's two of them).

Then lift the upper circuit board up and pull towards you to unseat the back of the board from the slot on the plastic connector.

Pull and Replace Chips
Flip the top board over and you should be seeing the component side of both boards. Before you touch the chips, make sure you ground yourself again to discharge any static you may have picked up from the carpeting.

Use a chip-puller to remove the stock DME chip paying attention to the alignment notch on one end of the chip. Insert new DME chip. Repeat procedure for KLR chip.

This would be a good time to disconnect the clear plastic boost-line going to the KLR to clean it out. Oil from the intake can clog this line and giveyou inaccurate boost readings. Disconnect the other end from the intake-manifold and spray some carb-cleaner down that line. Gently blow some air through it to flush and dry out the carb-cleaner. Re-assemble everything in reverse order.
Install Banjo Bolt
Next, install the modified banjo-bolt with the restrictor jets. There should be three different sized jets that came with the AutoThority Stg.2 kit. Start out with the largest one first (least boost) to be safe. If you don't get 15psi max-boost, swap in smaller jets until you see a peak maximum boost level of 15psi (usually around 3500-4000rpm). This boost level will typically drop off to about 12psi at redline.
